Nineteen Thirteen Custom Jewelry

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

This week I was excited to receive some jewelry from a former bride, Terri Jegerski of Nineteen Thirteen Custom Jewelry. I photographed her wedding in Lake Geneva about two years ago. I received a pair of silver “molten earrings”…and I can’t even describe them any better than that - they really are molten!

Classy packaging!

You can wish Terri (and her husband Dan) a happy anniversary on August 1, and find more of Terri’s custom jewelry on her Etsy Store at http://nineteenthirteen.etsy.com.

Thank you Terri!

An Inspiration

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

I was organizing some files today and I came across some scanned photos that were taken by my great-grandmother.

When my great-grandmother (”Grandma Bee”) passed away many years ago, we found that she had saved boxes upon boxes of photos.  Most were photos of my grandpa growing up, but there were also photos of her family and travels.  By digging through the boxes I learned that she loved to travel, and she loved photography, just like me!  It was enlightening to know that she shared the same passions as I do, and I only wish she could have been here to see it!

Oakland Bay Bridge

In the early 1940’s, Grandma Bee traveled to California and took some amazing photos of what I believe are some Ford Model A’s crossing the Oakland Bay Bridge.  It still amazes me that she took these photos, because at that time they were just a bunch of cars on a bridge.  Maybe she saw it as more than that, maybe not.  But how many people today would even think of taking photos of today’s cars crossing a bridge?   And if you did, how many people 50+ years from now will think the cars look “antique” and “cool”?

Oakland Bay Bridge

I really don’t know what it is that drew me to these photos…but it always makes me smile when simple everyday things that many people take for granted become something more via a photograph.

Below is the photo I ended up enlarging to a 36-inch gallery-wrap canvas print, and for the past three years I’ve had it hanging on my office wall. Its more than just a decoration to me — it’s an inspiration!

Happy 2010!

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

I  know I know, I’ve been neglecting this blog something terrible, but I promise I’ve been better at fulfilling orders and wedding albums in the last couple of months!  I’d like to wish everyone a happy and prosperous 2010, and welcome in the new year with some fresh wedding photos from a January 2nd wedding to be posted soon (you may recognize the couple from their engagement session)…but before that, I figured I should share some of my new years resolutions!

Number One…quit neglecting the blog.  Yep…this is an important one.  Ideally, I’d like to post at least once a week, so that is what I am going to try to stick to.   And I’d also like to get weddings on the blog much faster - I’m ashamed to say I still have 8 weddings from 2009 to post, and a couple of autumn engagement sessions.  I guess that will make the “once-a-week” posting a bit easier hehehe!  :)  Now I need to come up with some sort of punishment if I do not post something at least once a week…any ideas?

Number Two…read more.  I have a library full of books that have not been read.  They range from photography books to geeky computer books to novels.  I have this thing where I go to bookstores and buy books but never read them.  I’ve imposed a “No more new books until you finish one you have” rule for 2010 - a little motivation for me to get reading!

Number Three…more art besides photography.  I believe in art therapy.  When I was in high school in college I dabbled in everything - painting, pencil sketching, sculpting, beading, crafts.  I used to paint murals, but until recently I had not picked up a paintbrush in years.  I just finished painting one of my favorite quotes on my office wall by hand - over 30 hours of work.  My next project is going to be crafting a nature scene on my bathroom wall in mosaic glass, or painting a large mural in my stairwell.  I haven’t yet decided!

Number Four…hold those who are close to me even closer.  :)

Here’s to kicking off a wonderful 2010!

Meet Lexie

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

Ok, so some of you may have already met Lexie…she has been my assistant all summer for weddings. We decided that before she moved away to college we should have a play-date with our cameras, so we did exactly that!

Lexie is an amazing photographer, and she just graduated from high school! I like to say she came from the streets…but really it’s only because the way we met — she was out taking her own senior portraits on the streets of Stevens Point! I think this girl eats, sleeps, and breathes photography! I’m excited that she’ll be back as my assistant next summer!

Here she is…

And Lexie took some really nice photos of me as well!
