Cathy and Zac’s Red Mill Wedding

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

Cathy and Zac’s wedding at the Red Mill and Chapel in the Woods in Waupaca was one rainy wedding I will never forget.  The rain held off for the outdoor ceremony, but it soaked the outdoor reception.  And what’s one way to make the best of a rainy reception?  Bring on the waterslide!!!

In the Hindu tradition, rain on the wedding day is considered lucky as it signals a strong marriage. The logic behind this belief is that a wet knot is more difficult to untie (getting married is often referred to as “tying the knot”)  So if it rains on your wedding day you will have a long, happy marriage.

So here’s to a long and happy marriage Cathy and Zac!

Good thing the children were well prepared with extra clothes for the rainy weather…I could just see the fear in all the mothers’ eyes if they were still wearing their Sunday best from the wedding ceremony!

Thank you Cathy and Zac for the laughs. And a special thanks to Nik from Photography by Nik in Houston for traveling to Wisconsin to assist!

Katie and John’s Lake Geneva Wedding

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

The summer of 2009 seemed to be the year of rainy weddings–we just couldn’t escape the weather.  Luckily Katie and John were spared the actual raindrops for their outdoor ceremony at the Lake Geneva Country Club, even though the clouds remained.  But the weather was forgotten when Katie appeared with her father, and everyone experienced one of those incredible moments where a break in the clouds allowed some light to shine through as she walked toward her groom.  Beautiful!

I had never in my life seen so many amazing people on the dance floor at one wedding - from Celtic dances to rocking out to “Electric Feel”, it was incredible!

I feel like this should have resulted in injury, but luckily it did not.

Thanks for the wonderful time, I still sing “Electric Feel” every time I look at these photos!

Amanda and Anthony’s Winter Wedding

Saturday, January 9th, 2010

“We always knew we wanted a winter wedding”

Anthony and Amanda wouldn’t let the threat of cold weather or a blizzard stop them from planning their perfect winter wedding.  They knew no matter what the weather, it was going to be fun!  And it sure was — from the laughs during the ceremony, to the hot dog bar, to the wild photobooth — I couldn’t find anyone without a smile on their face.  Amanda and Anthony even braved the 7 degree weather for outdoor photos!

We also had a Wild Photobooth at the reception! A big thanks to my assistants Lexie and Mark who kept the photobooth rocking, and all of the wedding guests who made it so much fun!

Happy 2010!

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

I  know I know, I’ve been neglecting this blog something terrible, but I promise I’ve been better at fulfilling orders and wedding albums in the last couple of months!  I’d like to wish everyone a happy and prosperous 2010, and welcome in the new year with some fresh wedding photos from a January 2nd wedding to be posted soon (you may recognize the couple from their engagement session)…but before that, I figured I should share some of my new years resolutions!

Number One…quit neglecting the blog.  Yep…this is an important one.  Ideally, I’d like to post at least once a week, so that is what I am going to try to stick to.   And I’d also like to get weddings on the blog much faster - I’m ashamed to say I still have 8 weddings from 2009 to post, and a couple of autumn engagement sessions.  I guess that will make the “once-a-week” posting a bit easier hehehe!  :)  Now I need to come up with some sort of punishment if I do not post something at least once a week…any ideas?

Number Two…read more.  I have a library full of books that have not been read.  They range from photography books to geeky computer books to novels.  I have this thing where I go to bookstores and buy books but never read them.  I’ve imposed a “No more new books until you finish one you have” rule for 2010 - a little motivation for me to get reading!

Number Three…more art besides photography.  I believe in art therapy.  When I was in high school in college I dabbled in everything - painting, pencil sketching, sculpting, beading, crafts.  I used to paint murals, but until recently I had not picked up a paintbrush in years.  I just finished painting one of my favorite quotes on my office wall by hand - over 30 hours of work.  My next project is going to be crafting a nature scene on my bathroom wall in mosaic glass, or painting a large mural in my stairwell.  I haven’t yet decided!

Number Four…hold those who are close to me even closer.  :)

Here’s to kicking off a wonderful 2010!
